Ryan was as usual trolling his phone mail when to his utter disbelief, there it was, the three little words: Ready for Sale! I’m sure that it was only mere seconds later that the speed dial was hit and there I heard the same words repeated to me, only louder and with a lot of giggling and heavy breathing.

So Ryan raced home and in a mad fervor we posted the game up with hearts beating and excitement seeping out of our every pore. It was truly a momentous moment in our lives. Ryan even chilled that special bottle of champagne we were saving for either the birth of our first child or well the release of our first video game. And it just so happened that the later came first.

With the bubbley in hand, we pretty much called and emailed and blogged and twittered about the launch to everybody. Giddy and laughing and drunk, we sat on our couch savouring the moment: our product was out…
So now comes the point where we start working on our updates (and I assure you there are many including an Advanced Speed Mode which will sure to be a thrill!) and promoting the game. Yes, now that Scratch-It is out in the world, it’s time to let everybody know about it! So if you’re a fan of our game and our two man development team, help us spread the word! Because as we promised, Chugaroo is coming to you!

Although Ryan has finaled a handful of games in his almost decade long games development career, this one is perhaps the sweetest, given that it was wholely conceived, created, and published by our own little selves. No big money was behind this game, nor many hands contributed to it either. It was just 3 lone souls who wanted to take a shot at creating something cool for the sake of creating something cool. This has been uncharted territory for us and we simply wanted to see how far we could get on our first attempt.

So, into the wee hours of the night, we submitted Scratch-It to Apple where it now sits awaiting approval! Do not fret though, my friends, Chugaroo Entertainment does not sit idle twiddling our thumbs as we wait. Oh no. We are already working on our next project and upgrades to Scratch-It. Yes, Ryan and I rarely go a day without discussing what the next game or add-on is going to be. Our philosophy has always been to deliver a great product that continues to evolve and entertain as we learn more about the technology and the gamescape. Literally minutes after submitting Scratch-It, Ryan and I were already brainstorming ideas for the next project. It just seems to get bigger and better each day.

Now the question is with all these fantastic ideas churning in our heads, how do we find the right heads and hands to put it together? Of course, we probably shouldn’t run ahead of ourselves since we’re still eagerly awaiting Scratch-It’s release to see how it will be received.

So in our next update, you will be hearing all about the official launch which, I assure you, will contain an abundant use of adjectives to describe our shameless excitement.

First our extremely important milestone is the final stretch of Scratch-It – our baby and first release under the Chugaroo name. After 3 months of hard toiling and lots of late nights, Ryan, Yoshi and I are finally looking at a product! Sitting here with the sound of Halo 3 in the background (Ryan’s busting some alien butt again), I’m working to compile the very last images and screenshots for the game and website.

Ah yes, holding my little iPhone in my hand as I scratch its pretty smooth surface is like caressing my very first born. Ok, yeah that was creepy. I must admit though it sure feels great to take a concept conceived over dinner some random night 3 months ago and see it come alive right before your eyes. Ryan and I are very proud indeed.
So what has it been like these 3 months? Well, Ryan would hide out in his office, papers and toys strewn in disarray, with Thievery Corp. or the Yeah Yeahs blasting in the background. He’d code one night, read legalities and speak business lingo the next. He’d code and curse, code and curse, and after several nights of this, he’d finally come out. A brave soul he is, Ryan is the backbone to this whole operation.

I would mostly sit on the couch surfing for cool images that make me go “oohh…” And believe me, the making of this game has consisted of many “Oh!” moments. I’d do a lot of fiddling (and not the musical variety) on Photoshop, tweaking images this and that for what seems like an ad infinitum amount of time. Apart from scavaging, I’ve become the queen of spreadsheets (and by the way, Google Docs rocks my socs!). And of course besides designing the game, I’d play my fair share too.  And ahem… side note: Little Big Planet rocks my world, yes it does!

So after 3 months of designing, coding, scavaging and tweaking, it’s finally nearing its end. We’re making out like Simon Whitfield in the final 100 metre stretch of the triathalon, busting out the hyperspeed to the finish line, only ok we’re not so cool, or so fast, or an Olympian.  But, you get the point. We’re working hard to put the final touches to the game and we’re looking at a release in mere days!

So stay tuned my friends and get your fingers ready because there’s a lot of scratching to be done!
